If you have been following my work for a while, you are well acquainted with my friend and frequent model Andreja. Andreja has been a good friend of mine for several years now and I know how much she misses her family back in Croatia.
So, when I heard that her mom and sister were going to be making their first trip to the United States to visit her, I knew we had to plan a portrait shoot. A few days after they arrived, Andreja’s mom Maria picked out San Francisco as our photo shoot location and we made our final plans for the shoot.
On the day of the shoot, San Francisco was clear and sunny… a treat since we were worried about fog! We stopped at several locations for photos – The Legion of Honor, Land’s End, Baker Beach, Fort Point, and the Palace of Fine Arts. But it wasn’t the locations that made the photographs special, it was watching Andreja with her family and how happy they were to be together.
By the end of the day, the language barrier between myself & Maria and Tina (her sister) didn’t matter. They figured out my funny gestures and Andreja translated (semi-accurately…I did not say your mom had too much make-up on…you are such a brat sometimes!) the rest.
Maria and Tina, it was a pleasure to finally meet you! And Andreja, I think seeing you happy with your mom & sister made this my all time favorite photo shoot with you!2
